Description

The High Pressure Jumper plus counter (HPJ+C) is a device that was developed for the mastication of hard chewing gums. The mastication that is performed by the Chewing Machine consists of repeated cycles of the jaws with the movements: PRESS-TWIST-OPEN-REGAIN. When masticating a hard gum, the standard Chewing Apparatus (DRT) may halt at the PRESS movement of the lower jaw. It is halted before it reaches the end position, because it cannot compress the gum further and thus one step in the chewing sequence is never fulfilled. The HPJ-function (High Pressure Jumper function) makes the chewing continue all the same after a short pause (the pause is set to 300 milliseconds). Chewing continues with TWIST – OPEN – REGAIN and PRESS (where it may stop for a while again), until the gum is soft enough for normal chewing without any pauses).
